2013 Cullen Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 1.5L Magnum

As usual, this blend contains a greater volume of Sauvignon Blanc than Semillon, which reflects the outstanding qualities of the fruit produced by the former variety on the Cullen Vineyard, while recognising that it can still be enhanced by the complimentary characteristics of the latter variety. The fruit was picked at optimal ripeness, which was represented by Baume’s of only 9.9° – 12.8°.

Complexity and completeness have been enhanced through maturing a substantial component of the wine in new oak.

Vintage Notes

2013 Another great vintage!

Although the weather lead up to and including vintage was warm, the fruit produced by all varieties in the vineyards of Cullen Wines in 2013 was exceptional. Vanya points out, the only problem is a shortage of the sensational fruit that was produced in 2013!
Indeed, while yields were down, the quality of the harvest is looking even better that last year and that year was regarded as exceptional!
Harvest started on the 6th February and we found ourselves harvesting around the new moon and flower days, rather than the Full moon and fruit days as in previous vintages. There were also no super moons in this year’s harvest. During vintage, which was completed as early as the 8th of March, we were very fortunate that the birds stayed away.

Tasting Notes

Bouquet: Delightful combination of fresh cut grass, spicy and vanillin oak aromas supported by tropical notes. Food: Marron raviole and lemongrass beurre blanc Palate: Deep, rich and vibrant fruit lifted by mineral flavours. Very complex already with lovely Chilean guava notes and toasty characteristics.
A great example of this wine style.
