‘Lovely clarity to this 100% cabernet sauvignon from the deep yet bright garnet hue to the aromas and flavours. A more restrained style, almost pretty, with a flutter of cassis and mint, blackberry essence and warm earth, bitumen, licrorice and tobacco. It’s still a touch raw with plentiful pomace-like tannins and the oak settling into place. Don’t be fooled though, this is enticing and detailed; it has a presence. Given the ever-increasing price and small production – just 578 bottles made – I hope some folk cellar this as it’s way too young. But hard to resist.’ 97 points. ‘The best wines are distinctive with a clear DNA link to place. Diana Madeline is one such wine. An excellent deep purple hue with and ever-changing array of aromas: one minute spice, mulberries and coca when first poured, and next full of savoury notes of black olive tapenade, nori and menthol. As usual, it’s beautifully framed yet the fuller-bodies palate is plumped up by textural, expansive tannins and finishes long. Get a spot ready in the cellar, this has time on its side’. 97 points.
