Garden Update December 2016

What is happening in the garden…

Our magnificent mulberry trees are in full production with the berries beginning their ripening colour change to dark purple. The quince, fig,  and pomegranate trees have set fruit as the summer heat radiates off the earth. Chrysanthemum, native hibiscus, pentstemon, dianthus, calendula and salvia fill the gardens with colourful flowers and provide our beneficial insects with their rich pollen and nectar.

Tomatoes, aubergine and zucchini have begun their flowering and fruit setting, with sunflowers at chest height and about to bloom, providing a great food source and distraction for our beautiful parrots. Beans, beetroot and radish have begun to be harvested, with asparagus and globe artichoke at the end of their production phase and entering their reproductive stage.

Biodynamic preparations of oak bark, chamomile and dandelion have been harvested and carefully stored along with BD500, barrel compost and worm castings for use in our gardens, vineyard and compost production. Chamomile, yarrow, dandelion, nettle and valerian are being handpicked, dried and stored for the production of next year’s preparations.

WE ARE CURRENTLY HARVESTING…

Asparagus, beans, beetroot, leek, zucchini, radish, chard, salad greens, herbs, edible flowers,

If anyone has any queries in regards to the garden, please feel welcome to ask…  Cheers, Jaimie
