The Wine Front Reviews Chardonnays 2016

TWF Chardonnay 2016 – the Year in Review | The Wine Front, 30 November 2016

So what did the Panel make of the 2016 work of the tWf reviewers? There were two easily drawn conclusions:

– Firstly that Australian Chardonnay is in great shape – never been better; and
– Secondly the guidance from the tWf panel over the previous 12 months has been very consistent and good.

Our top wine was the Cullen Kevin John Flower Day Chardonnay 2013 on 97+. The power, intensity and length of the wine was phenomenal. I understand that only a few barrels were made and at $250 a bottle, few will get to try it which is a shame. This was the top wine for three of our Panelists. I thought the 2014 “standard” Kevin John was a great wine and a bit unlucky not to also have been in the 2016 lineup after GW rated it 95 but the Flower Day wine is a cut above. I see that GW has given it a ten year cellaring window which I think is very generous and I would drink it sooner rather than later.
