2022 Mangan East Block

The Mangan East Block is a unique blend created by Cullen Wines team in 2000 vintage. The rich sensual character with the linear structure of Petit Verdot makes it a perfect blend.

Hand harvested grapes from the best blocks at certified biodynamic Mangan vineyard planted in 1995-1997.

Naturally fermented without additions the fermented skins were basket pressed and matured in 50% new biodynamic oak for 7 months. The resulting blend is 93% Malbec, 7% Petit Verdot.

The 2022 harvest resulted in perfumed aromatic wines of great character and this wine is no exception.

 

 

Vintage Notes

2022 vintage grew wines of immense perfume and texture. The cooler season and low yields ensured that the health of the vines and hence the fruit quality. Exceptionally good for chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and of course Cabernet Sauvignon.

Winemaker Notes

Vineyard:  100% Mangan vineyard

Varieties:  93% Malbec,  7% Petit Verdot

Harvest Dates:  12th March – flower day, and 24th March – fruit day

Alcohol:  13.9%

Oak:  50% New oak for 7 months

Colour: Mulberry with purple tinges.. inky richness of texture. Cellar: Enjoy now or for up to 20 years Bouquet: Mulberry sandalwood, plum, cherry, thyme, chocolate, rose. Food: Lamb, beef or beetroot Palate: Defined by rich texture and sensual bright vibrant cherry, mulberry, plum, chocolate,… it is the fruit concentration and purity of fruit, gritty unctuous delicious, fine tannins sit and wrap around the plushness of the Malbec and Petit Verdot. A wine to enjoy now and also for the future. Such a unique blend, lingering for a timeless moment of beauty and style.
